How Film Club Works
Film Club is a filmmaking program that guides students through the six essential phases of moviemaking—from the first spark of an idea to the excitement of a big-screen premiere. Designed for schools, nonprofits, and youth organizations, our hands-on approach blends the art and business of cinema while covering every phase of production. Whether we’re partnering with a single class or an entire campus, we tailor the experience to fit your schedule, space, and learning goals. If your school or organization doesn’t yet have a Film Club, we can bring one to you.
Phase 1
Introduction to Filmmaking
Students form teams and explore filmmaking through the “Door Scene” exercise, learning to plan, shoot, critique, and re-shoot scenes before editing their footage.
Phase 2
Story & Character Development
Students study story structure and character creation, then write a short script of three to five pages to serve as the foundation for their team’s film.
Phase 3
Pre-Production Planning
Students break down their script to plan for props, locations, and costumes, while creating detailed storyboards and shot lists to guide production.
Phase 4
Rehearsals & Filming
Students work with actors to block scenes and rehearse, then follow their production schedule to shoot the film using their planned shots and angles.
Phase 5
Editing & Post-Production
Students edit their footage, adding sound design and applying basic color correction to ensure a polished final cut ready for screening.
Phase 6
Marketing & Exhibition
Students design promotional materials for their films, which are showcased in a public screening for peers, families, and the wider community.
